Nick Saban was mostly pleased with his team’s performance Friday, even if it is still early and only a scrimmage.

Speaking for the first time since Monday’s press conference, which was overshadowed by defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor’s dismissal from the team, Saban complimented a few position groups, including the inside linebackers and quarterbacks. He also mentioned running back Kenyan Drake on several occasions.

But the news wasn’t all positive. Freshman running back Bo Scarbrough had to be carted off the field due to a knee injury near the end of the scrimmage.

Also of note, Saban said quarterback Cooper Bateman’s part-time move to wide receiver is not permanent, but instead simply a move to “create a role” for him. During Monday and Wednesday’s practices earlier this week, the redshirt sophomore from Murray, Utah split time with the quarterbacks and wide receivers.
