TRUSSVILLE -- Tuscaloosa County could not pull off the late-game magic for the second year in a row.

Instead, the Wildcats dropped its second game this season, 38-13, at Hewitt-Trussville Friday night.

Tuscaloosa County, 0-1 on the season after a season-opening loss at Northridge last week, held their own, but could not keep up with the Huskies offensively.

Hewitt-Trussville, with four Division I-bound seniors, three of them in the offensive backfield -- quarterback Zac Thomas (uncommitted), running back Jarrion Street (Ole Miss commit) and fullback Bailey McElwain (Stanford commit) -- forced the Wildcats into a tough spot early and broke it open late. (The fourth player, linebacker Jalen Williams, holds offers from Army and Navy, among a few others.)

After the first quarter, the Huskies led 13-0 with both Thomas and Street scoring on long runs. Thomas took a quarterback draw 52 yards to put up points on the board first, with Street outracing the Wildcats defense for an 87-yard touchdown on the second-to-last play of the period.

In the fourth quarter, Thomas, a dual-threat quarterback whose offer list includes South Alabama, Southern Miss and Troy, found an open Elliott McElwain streaking up the middle of the field for a 23-yard score to push the lead to 31-7 with 8:50 remaining.

Senior running back Grayson Cash capped off the Huskies' scoring with a 19-yard score with just over five minutes to go.

According to AL.com, Thomas accounted for 247 all-purpose yards -- 133 passing and 114 rushing -- with two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).

Street, who also holds offers from Missouri, Memphis, Cincinnati and Iowa State, had 150 yards rushing and two scores on 18 carries.

Last season, the Wildcats scored 22 unanswered after falling behind 21-6 early in the second quarter to beat the Huskies 28-21 at home in the final two minutes.

Wildcats running back Bo Evans led the way offensively for Tuscaloosa County for much of the night Friday, picking up 106 yards and one score on 12 carries. On his touchdown run early in the second quarter, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound sophomore broke several tackles on his 30-yard run into the end zone to cut the lead to 13-7.

Sophomore quarterback JD Thomas, in relief of starter Sam Cooper late in the game, found wide receiver Malik Smith in the end zone for a 36-yard touchdown with 2:20 remaining.

Tuscaloosa County (0-2, 0-1 Class 7A, Region 3) travels to region foe Spain Park next Friday.
