The coaching profession lost one of its greatest ambassadors on Monday when legendary Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt passed away after a five-year fight with Alzheimer's Disease.

Summitt led the Lady Vols over five different decades and totaled 1,068 wins, which ranks first in NCAA history. But her impact went far behind wins and losses. She was instrumental in raising the profile of female athletes and creating more opportunities in sports.

She was also well-respected among her coaching peers, and that included Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The University of Alabama released a statement from Saban on the passing of Summitt, and it shows how many people respected her abilities and enjoyed being around her.

There will be a public ceremony celebrating the life of Summitt on July 14 at Thompson-Bowling Arena in Knoxville.
