Levi Randolph Named SEC Player of the Week

Alabama senior guard Levi Randolph was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday.

The award is Randolph’s first career league honor and the Tide’s first Player of the Week award since Trevor Releford earned the accolade on Nov. 19, 2012.

Randolph had a big week as he averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in wins over Western Carolina and defending C-USA champions Southern Miss last week. He was also one of the more efficient players on the floor, knocking down 60 percent (12-of-20) of his shots from the field, 50 percent (3-of-6) from beyond the arc and 100 percent (15-of-15) of his free throw attempts.

Against Western Carolina, the Madison, Ala., native scored 19 points went 11-of-11 from the free throw line, which is tied for first in free throw percentage for a game in school history (minimum of 10 attempts). The last player to achieve that feat was JaMychal Green, who went 12-of-12 from the line vs. Oklahoma State on Dec. 18, 2010.

Randolph followed that effort by hitting his first six shots of the game against Southern Miss, closing the first half with 18 points. He finished with a game-high 23 points, while also adding seven rebounds. Randolph has led the Tide in scoring in each of the three games on the year.

The senior captain leads Alabama in points (19.0), rebounds (7.7), assists (3.0) and minutes (33.0) per game.

Randolph will lead the Crimson Tide as it competes at the 2014 CBE Hall of Fame Classic on Kansas City, Mo. Alabama will take on No. 14/14 Iowa State on Monday night at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
