As the season opener against USC inches closer, the anticipation will grow for who will be the next signal caller for the Crimson Tide.

John Parker Wilson, the quarterback for Nick Saban’s first two teams at Alabama, took time to reflect on his days in the crimson and white on Inside the Locker Room.

Wilson played from 2005-2008 and is among the top quarterbacks in Crimson Tide history in numerous offensive categories.

The former Alabama signal caller mentioned the differences in Shula’s and Saban’s involvement in the offense and how the team reacted to Saban’s hiring at Alabama in 2007.

“When Coach Saban first got there, we just knew things were going to be different if we could buy in, and it didn’t take everybody long to do that.” Wilson said.

Wilson also recalled the limited number of seniors on the 2008 squad and how Mike Shula laid the ground work in recruiting for the program’s first SEC Championship Game appearance since 2008.

“A lot of the guys that we played with in 2008, when we finally made it back to the SEC Championship, was guys that Coach Shula recruited. We only graduated with nine seniors that year, and I think he definitely started the ball rolling to what we are today.” Wilson said.
