NORTHPORT -- For the second straight year, the winner was from south of the Black Warrior River.

In one of West Alabama's biggest rivalry games, Tuscaloosa County fell 35-7 at home to Hillcrest Friday night.

Patriots running back Brian Robinson -- who holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss South Carolina, among others -- rushed for two touchdowns in a game in which Hillcrest never trailed.

The Patriots jumped out to a 21-0 first-half lead behind touchdown runs from Robinson -- on the game's opening possession -- quarterback Cole Frederick and a 73-yard punt return Cagan Campbell.

In the second half, Hillcrest extended its lead to 35-7, following Robinson's second score of the game and Laterrius Ruffin's 5-yard run with 5:30 remaining.

The Wildcats scored their lone touchdown when quarterback Sam Cooper hit Justen Little on a 7-yard slant in the end zone with 33 seconds left in the half. It was both Cooper's first touchdown pass and Little's first scoring reception this season.

During the third quarter, the Wildcats had a chance to cut the lead to seven, but Cooper was intercepted after a hard hit over the middle caused his pass to pop out of the hands of a County High receiver and into those of Hillcrest senior linebacker Kobe Redmond.

Robinson then scored on the ensuing drive to push the Patriots' lead back up to 21 points.

Robinson rushed for a game-high 111 yards on 21 carries against the Wildcats. Earlier this season, he set the AHSAA Class 6A record for rushing yards in a game with 447 in a 41-40 loss to Clay-Chalkville, the top-ranked 6A team.

Last season, County High lost 24-17 at Hillcrest in a game that came down until late in the fourth quarter.

For Tuscaloosa County, it's only the second time ever that its lost two straight against Hillcrest. After Friday night, the Wildcats still lead the all-time series, 15-5, but have now lost four out of the last six meetings, dating back to 2010. The series began in 1996 and has been played every year since.

Friday night's game was also a cancer awareness night at County High, with both schools raising money for research throughout the week. Tuscaloosa County raised more than $5,300 of the more than $8,300 raised between the two schools.

In the video above, County High play-by-play announcer Justin Baker and color commentator Greer Williams provide their postgame thoughts.

The Wildcats (0-5, 0-3 Class 7A, Region 3) return to action next Friday in a showdown against region foe Mountain Brook in Northport.
