Dan Mullen has a really good football team in Starkville.

But Nick Saban has a better one in Tuscaloosa.

Now, I don’t know if Saban’s Tide is better than Mullen’s Dogs outside of Bryant-Denny Stadium, but there’s an excellent chance we will find out in January.

Alabama’s 25-20 win over then-top-ranked Miss. State, has propelled the Crimson Tide to the top of the CFP rankings that were released Tuesday night.

The fact that Bama jumped from No. 5 to No. 1 is significant (and a bit surprising, to me). But the Bulldogs staying within the Top 4 is just as big.

If all four teams atop the rankings right now (Alabama, Oregon, Florida State, and MSU) do indeed win all of their remaining games, I don’t know that the committee keeps the Bulldogs at No. 4. TCU, Ohio State, and Baylor will all be up for debate.

History indicates it won’t, but if everything holds as it is, a rematch of the Tide and the Bulldogs in New Orleans would be a great one.

I know that Miss. State would love another crack at Alabama, and I don’t think the Crimson Tide would mind that matchup at all.
