I went to the doctor today.

It was only a check up. I do these a couple of times each year. When you lose your Mom to heart disease at the age of 55, and your now 85-year old Dad has had a couple of heart procedures, as well, it’s not a bad idea.

It’s always reassuring when your doctor says what others have told me recently: “You look really happy.”

I am.

And why wouldn’t I be?

I have a wonderful, healthy family, and a job (okay, several jobs) that I love.

While I am FAR from having life figured out, my stress level is probably the lowest it has been in 15 years. So I’m glad that people can actually see that happiness when they look at me.

Now, I don’t know Lane Kiffin.

At all.

But I know what a happy person looks like. And Lane Kiffin certainly fit that description in the locker room Saturday evening at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

One of my responsibilities, as the sideline reporter for the Crimson Tide Sports Network, is to help Eli Gold and Phil Savage with post game interviews in the Bama locker room. We usually talk with a couple of players, and then we wait on Nick Saban to finish talking to the media and (for home games) recruits that are in attendance.

That can be a lengthy process, considering the number of recruits that are in attendance for big games, such as the one Alabama played Saturday against Florida.

After visiting with Blake Sims, a number of other players, several assistants, a few managers, and almost anyone else that would talk to him, a smiling, laughing Crimson Tide offensive coordinator finally left the locker room.

What a difference 12 months can make.

A year ago, Kiffin was watching his dream job become a nightmare. The leader of the USC Trojans had the weight of the world on his shoulders, and was soon to be forced out as head coach.

Now, with a pretty nice paycheck, no media responsibilities, a boat-load of offensive weapons to choose from – including the nation’s top receiver - Kiffin’s coaching stock has again risen, as his blood pressure has likely been lowered.
