My football game day routine is usually the same, and frankly pretty stress-free, until we get close to kickoff.

I generally have no on-air responsibilities, until I join Tom Roberts for a brief segment on the CTSN pregame show, roughly 90 minutes before kickoff.

Last Saturday was no different - at least until Jim Carabin, my general manager at the Crimson Tide Sports Network, called and told me we were a man down, and he needed me at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Tom was sick, and would miss a game for the first time in…Well…nobody could really remember.

That meant I would host the pregame show myself, rather than simply making a five-minute appearance.

Fortunately, I had a little familiarity with the format for the show, and most importantly I had our producer Tom Stipe to walk me through it.

Great guests such as 1974 Alabama team captains Ricky Davis and Woodrow Lowe, and of course the regulars such as Eli Gold and Phil Savage, helped the hour go by quickly – and relatively pain free.

After that, I had one other small additional role for the day. I handled the halftime interview normally done by TR. Thankfully, it was with Coach Anthony Grant, so it wasn’t as if I had to do major research at the last minute.

The job was fun, but, like everybody else, I’ll be glad to have Tom back with us this weekend.

It’s Florida Week. We’ve got to be at full strength.

Editor's Note: Chris' schedule took him NBC 13's 'Alabama Tonight', which you can watch below.
