On Monday morning, Alabama alumni and current prospect with the Oakland Athletics, Cobie Fletcher-Vance got to talk about his progress and the state of professional baseball on The Gary Harris Show.

The 22-year-old out of Fayetteville, North Carolina took questions from Harris on his time at The Capstone, surviving the minor leagues, and everyday life during a pandemic.

When asked to reflect on his career for the Crimson Tide, Fletcher-Vance stated: “It was the time of my life and something I never knew could happen.”

While he still played baseball in Tuscaloosa, the defensive star in the “hot corner” started in all 168 games of his career. However, he would leave the Tide after his junior season to continue his dream of playing professional baseball.

Fletcher-Vance was drafted in the 18th round by the Oakland Athletics and signed to their development team in Arizona, in 2018. Now with the Beloit Snappers, his next goal is to play for the Single-A Stockton Ports.

In the Stockton Ports club history, the organization has fielded multiple household names before their time in the big leagues. This would include Mike Piazza, Gary Sheffield, Jim Morris, and more recently, Coco Crisp.

MLB players and owners are struggling to come to a deal that would safely bring back baseball for this summer. Recently, the MLB decided to cancel all minor league games for the rest of the season and in turn, the minor league players will not receive a salary for the season as well. During the quarantine, Fletcher-Vance is focused on staying in a “baseball mindset” to be as ready as possible to rejoin a team in the organization.
