Two of the best players in Alabama softball history helped the USA to a gold medal at the 2023 Pan Am games in Santiago, Chile. Former All-Americans Montana Fouts and Haylie McCleney led Team USA to an undefeated week that included America's `0th Gold Medal in 12 Pan American games appearances.

Team USA went 6-0 this week, which included victories over Chile, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

McCleney is arguably the bests center fielder to ever play in college. She is a 2016 Alabama  graduate who played in all six games and had five starts last week.The pride of Morris, Ala. and Mortimer Jordan High School slahed .500, with five walks and scored five runs, not to mention five RBIs. She finished 2-3 with two runs and an RBI batting leadoff in the gold medal game against Puerto Rico on Saturday.

Fun fact: Alabama softball made history when Fouts joined McCleney on the USA roster,  as Patrick Murphy's program then became just one of four schools with at least two current or former players represented on Team USA's roster.

McCleney has been with the team since 2014, and the speedy center fieldeer  won a silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Fouts has a brief history with the squad, after previously helping the American team to a gold medal at the 2023 World Games in Hoover, Ala.at The Met.
