Tuscaloosa native Deontay Wilder has a chance to become the first American-born heavyweight champion in nine years when he fights Bermane Stiverne in Las Vegas on January 17.

As he wrapped up his final preparations in Alabama, Wilder stopped by the Tide 99.1 studios to talk about his training for the fight and reflect on the opportunity that awaits him. He'll step into the ring on his idol Muhammad Ali's 73rd birthday with the chance to carry the same belt that the greatest boxer of all time once held.

Wilder, who holds a career record of 32-0 with 32 KOs, will get a send-off party in his hometown of Tuscaloosa on Thursday, January 8.
