An Alabama high school football player who collapsed on the field during a game has died.

Authorities said 17-year-old Charles Henderson High School senior cornerback Demario Harris collapsed during the second quarter of Friday night's game against Davidson in Troy.

Steve Pearce, a spokesman for Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, tells Al.com that Harris was pronounced dead on Sunday.

The Troy Messenger reports that Harris collapsed after a tackle.

Davidson coach Fred Riley tells Al.com that Harris made a tackle near its sideline, got up, jogged about 10 yards and had a seizure and collapsed in front of the Davidson bench.

The Dothan Eagle reports that pastors and counselors on Sunday were at the Charles Henderson campus in Troy to help teammates and classmates cope with the loss.
