A signature sight along McFarland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa is preparing to close its doors for good. Bruno's Supermarket, and its big Alabama elephant painted on the window over by University Mall, has begun to liquidate its inventory.

The store's owner, Bill White, told the Tuscaloosa News, the store will be closed for good in a matter of weeks. It is unclear what the future holds for the location. Although, it seems apparent that the Bruno's name will be gone.

In recent months, those who have shopped there, like myself, knew things weren't going well. The store had issues with the refrigerators and freezers, and the stock gradually shrunk. The store attempted creative ways to be successful, such as removing the pharmacy for beer taps and growlers. Hey, they already had a reputation for having an impressive selection beers. It got to a point where the once filled aisles became increasingly bare.

What will go in its place? Another supermarket? Maybe those who keep hoping for Chuck E. Cheese will get their wish. Who knows, as future plans remain a mystery. Well, at least as far as I know. Well, just like I asked after K-Mart announced the Northport store closing, what should go in its place?
