Bama Baseball Outslugs ASU

Like basketball, baseball is a game of runs. And Alabama 2024 baseball scores them in spurts, as does its counterpart at Coleman Coliseum.

A pair of big innings powered Alabama baseball to a 12-0 win over Alabama State on Wednesday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. With the victory, the Crimson Tide improves to 5-0 on the year.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings before Alabama was able to break the stalemate. The Crimson Tide rallied for a seven-run fourth and a five-run fifth, all the offense needed in the run-rule victory.

The offense was led once again by center fielder TJ McCants and second sacker Bryce Eblin. McCants drove in six runs and finished 2-for-3 with a grand slam, one run and a walk to go with his RBI. Eblin contributed three RBI of his own, part of a 2-for-3 effort that included a walk and two runs scored.

Said Tide Head Coach Rob Vaughn: “This was a good night to get going, a good night for our fifth win. I know the score is a crooked number up there, but we just need to keep growing as a group. We did enough tonight, which was good, and it all started with Zane Adams on the mound. We got to see a flash of what he’s capable of in that role and what he’s going to be. There’s a lot of things to be excited about with him and all of our young players.”

Alabama’s pitching was stellar once again, posting its second shutout effort of the season. Zane Adams (1-0) got the start, giving up one hit and walking a pair while striking out two for the win. He was followed by a collection of three arms in Matthew Heiberger, Pierce George and Jansen Kenty who combined for four strikeouts to ensure the shutout victory.
