One month after announcing he was leaving Texas A&M, Avery Johnson Jr. shared the news that he would join his father at Alabama.

Johnson Jr. received a release from Texas A&M after playing one season for the Aggies. During that freshman campaign, he played in 13 games and scored a total of 18 points. A three-star recruit out of high school, Johnson Jr. will have to sit out one season per NCAA guidelines before he can take the court for his father.

“I am thrilled as both a coach and a father for Avery Jr. to join our basketball program at the University of Alabama,” coach Johnson said in a release. “As a father, to have the opportunity to coach your son is something I am really looking forward to. As a coach, I am excited to have someone of Avery’s skill set and character on our team. I expect Avery to be a great representative of our program in three major phases: athletically, academically and as someone who will help sell my vision for this program.”

The elder Johnson has been busy in the two months he's been the Crimson Tide head coach. From recruiting to public appearances, Johnson has been traveling across the south as he prepares for his first season as a college head coach.
