Alabama freshman pitcher Alexis Osorio has been named the SEC Freshman of the Year, while three other Crimson Tide players were named All-SEC with Haylie McCleney also taking home Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.

Osorio and McCleney were named First Team All-SEC while Marisa Runyon and Demi Turner were named Second Team All-SEC. Osorio and Turner represent Alabama on the Freshman All-SEC team as well while McCleney is the center field representative on the SEC All-Defensive team for the third straight season. McCleney, who shares this year’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades with Arkansas senior Devon Wallace, is the third Alabama player to earn the award, joining Jordan Praytor (2008) and Jennifer Fenton (2012).

Osorio is Alabama’s eighth SEC Freshman of the Year award winner and the first since Kayla Braud in 2010. She is also the first Alabama player to be named First Team All-SEC as a freshman since Braud in 2010. The Riverside, Calif., native led the Alabama pitching staff with 16 wins this season, posting an SEC-leading 1.60 ERA in conference play. She was the only pitcher to surpass 100 strikeouts in conference play, 67 of which were swinging, while holding SEC opponents to a .186 batting average.

McCleney has been named All-SEC in each of her three seasons at Alabama, including First Team selections the past two years. She leads the team and ranks third in the SEC with a .460 batting average while also drawing a league-leading 50 walks. Her .602 on-base percentage leads the SEC and is currently a single-season record at Alabama. She also holds Alabama career records in on-base percentage (.564) and batting average (.456). Off the field, she owns a 4.0 GPA and was a First Team Academic All-American last season.

Runyon is second in the SEC in RBI (68) and fourth in home runs (17), while she leads the league in both categories in SEC-only games. She has hit multiple home runs in four different games this season, becoming the only player in program history to do so. Her three home runs against Arkansas on May 2 tied a single-game school record while her seven RBI against Tennessee on April 25 was just the fifth time an Alabama player has hit at least seven RBI in a game, the first since 2008.

Turner ranks among the top 10 in the SEC in batting average (.444) and hits (71) while leading the league with 11 sacrifice bunts. Her 25 multi-hit games leads the team this season, as she has earned a hit in 38 of her 51 starts. She was named SEC Freshman of the Week twice this season, a feat only accomplished by four other players in program history.
