Alabama Volleyball’s Krystal Rivers and Kat Hutson Named All-SEC

For the second straight season, Alabama’s pair of pin hitters in redshirt junior Krystal Rivers and sophomore Kat Hutson have both earned All-SEC honors, announced by the Southeastern Conference Wednesday.

This is Hutson’s second accolade in as many seasons and Rivers’ third, making her the first three-time All-SEC player for the Crimson Tide since Bridget Fuentez did so from 2005-07. Alabama is one of five SEC teams to place multiple athletes on this year’s list. Florida led all teams with five honorees followed by Kentucky, Missouri and Texas A&M with three each. Ole Miss and Arkansas each placed one on the list.

Rivers leads the team with 410 kills (4.06/set), which ranks third in the SEC. She is one of four players on the team with at least 20 service aces and her 81 total blocks ranks second on the team. She has posted at least 20 kills in half of the Tide’s SEC matches this season, including a season-high 30 at Missouri on Oct. 28. Her 1,402 career kills ranks sixth all-time at Alabama and her .325 career hitting percentage ranks fourth.

Hutson is directly behind Rivers in the SEC standings, ranked fourth in kills with 364 (3.68/set). She has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and has posted double-digit kills in all but three SEC matches. She has hit above .400 four times this season, including a season-high .519 at South Carolina on Sunday, Nov. 22.

Alabama (16-14, 10-6 SEC) concludes its regular season this week at home, facing Ole Miss (21-10, 7-9 SEC) on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. CT on the SEC Network and LSU (9-18, 5-11 SEC) on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. CT.
