Alabama men’s golfer Robby Shelton was selected to the Southeastern Conference First Team, while Davis Riley earned a spot on the league’s second team and all-freshman team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

In addition, junior Robby Prater was named to the SEC Community Service team.

Shelton earned first team honors for a third straight season becoming one of just four golfers in Alabama program history to earn the feat, joining Steve Lowery (1981-83), Bud Cauley (2009-11), Cory Whitsett (2011-14) and Bobby Wyatt (2012-14).

Shelton, who was selected as a semifinalist for both the Ben Hogan award and Jack Nicklaus award as the nation’s top collegiate golfer, continues to be a force for the nationally-ranked Crimson Tide men’s golf team. The Wilmer, Ala., native has claimed three individual titles this season, giving him a program record seven medalist honors in his career. He enters NCAA Regional play ranked ninth in the nation in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, while leading the Tide in per round stroke average (70.44), average vs. par (-0.67) and total score vs. par (-18). Shelton has finished among the top 20 in eight of the nine tournaments he has played in this season and now has 29 top-20 results in 31 career tournaments played at Alabama.

Meanwhile, Riley’s nod to the all-freshman team marks the third straight season an Alabama rookie has earned the honor (Shelton in 2014 and Jonathan Hardee in 2015). Furthermore, he becomes the ninth Alabama golfer over the past seven seasons to earn a spot on the league’s all-freshman team. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native has had a stellar rookie campaign as he currently ranks second on the team with a stroke average of 71.80. As one of just two UA golfers to have competed in all 10 events (Tom Lovelady), Riley has four top-10 finishes and seven top-20 results this season, highlighted by a fourth-place result at the Olympia Fields/Illini Invitational last fall.

Georgia’s Lee McCoy was named the SEC Golfer of the Year, while head coach Chris Haack was voted as the league’s Coach of the Year. Florida’s Sam Horsfield earned the Freshman of the Year honors, while Missouri’s Euan Walker was tabbed the Scholar Athlete of the Year.
