The University of Alabama is close to finalizing its 2018 non-conference football schedule after adding its third opponent on Tuesday.

The Crimson Tide will pay The Citadel a guarantee of $500,000 to travel to Tuscaloosa the week before the Iron Bowl. The two teams will square off on November 17, 2018, in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our program,” Citadel coach Brent Thompson said. “These games are important for many reasons, and they allow us to provide our cadet-athletes with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I’m excited that our team will have the experience of playing in front of more than 100,000 fans against one of the premier teams in college football.”

The Citadel competes in the Southern Conference at the FCS level, but the Bulldogs beat South Carolina just one year ago.

Alabama's 2018 schedule now includes a neutral site game against Louisville in Orlando to start the season, Arkansas State at home in week 2, and The Citadel. That leaves one open spot left to fill for that year.
