In the bottom of the eighth with two outs and runners at first and second, a J.C. Wilhite bloop single to right field broke the tie and helped propel Alabama baseball to the 6-4 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday afternoon inside Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. With the win, Alabama improves to 7-2 overall.

Wilhite’s single put the Crimson Tide ahead, 5-4, and then an errant throw by the ULL pitcher on a pickoff attempt allowed another run to score to move the Alabama lead to 6-4. Ray Castillo closed out the game for Alabama to earn his first win of the season, retiring all six batters he faced on 16 total pitches, 15 of which went for strikes.

Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette will get together again tomorrow for game two of the series. The Crimson Tide and Ragin’ Cajuns are set for a 2 p.m. first pitch, with UA throwing junior Will Carter and ULL countering with senior Greg Milhorn.
